Nickname registrations on DALnet are handled by NickServ, one of DALnet’s services.
You should only ever provide your nickname password to NickServ.
Nobody else on DALnet will ever ask for it, even if they claim to be staff.
Registering your nickname on DALnet has many benefits, including:
- Ensuring only you can use your nickname
- Being able to register your own channels
- You can be added as an AOp or SOp to other users channels
You will need:
- A valid and working email address
- A secure password
- To be using a nickname that is not already registered
How to register:
Step 1:
/msg NickServ@services.dal.net REGISTER password email@address.com
Example: /msg NickServ@services.dal.net register myp4ssw0rd myname@hotmail.co.uk
Step 2:
You will receive a ‘challenge’ from NickServ to check if you are a human. You will be asked a simple question, and will be instructed on how to answer it.
Usually it is done by repeating the the REGISTER command above, with the answer to the question on the end.
What happens next:
You will receive an email from DALnet with instructions on how to verify your email.
If you do not follow the validation instructions within 72 hours, the nickname will be made available to be registered by someone else.
